Melbourne City Council contracted Delta Group in 2014 to design and complete civil landscaping works for the development of Royal Park following our demolition of the original Royal Children’s Hospital that once stood on the site.

The scope of works for up to four hectares of reclaimed parkland included:

  • Demolition and removal of existing roadway and pavements, including concrete kerbs and recycling of construction waste materials.
  • Site preparation, including detailed earthworks and contour works.
  • Structural and civil construction works, including installation of new car parks, edgeworks and rockwork, pavement sub-bases, concrete footings, pouring and formwork for stairs and retaining walls.
  • Hard and soft landscaping, including an extensive automated irrigation system, custom playground facilities (including water park features) and the planting of more than 18,000 trees and plants as well as grassland areas.
  • Supply and installation of outdoor furniture and fixtures.

In March 2017 the Royal Park redevelopment was recognised among the world’s best public spaces with an International Green Flag award. Only six parks in Australia received the prestigious award which is based on horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability, community engagement and ambience.
