A major milestone was delivered on the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project where Delta’s Victorian civil team is delivering a twelve metre deep expansion of the existing basement. Hydraulic struts were installed to retain bulk excavations down to 10 metres.
The works are part of a broader revitalisation of Melbourne’s cultural heart, enabling improved logistics, back-of-house operations, and support services for the Arts Centre. The basement extension plays a key role in transforming how the precinct operates behind the scenes.

Delta is delivering a full package of works that includes bulk excavation down to 10 metres; temporary propping, using hydraulic struts to retain the excavation; waterproofing system installation; construction of hydrostatic-rated slabs and walls; and the construction of a suspended slab above the new basement.
In completing our program we’ve had great support from our client Lendlease; Coates (strut supply and service); R&M (strut installation); Engineering Elements (third party structural engineering); and FSG (third party geotechnical engineering).
And a big shoutout to our Delta team on the ground: Ali Baluwala, Josh Robson, David Holyok, Saurabh Jain, Ryan Buszko, Akhil Kondam, and Savindee Rupasinghe – whose hard work, coordination, and focus on safety have kept the complex programme on track.
