  •  Pedestrian Overpass demolition and removal – spanning major arterial road in North Sydney. Maintaining north/south bound traffic flows for more than 165,000 vehicles each day
  • All major crane lifts were completed within strict curfew hours; opening the main arterial for commuters by the next morning
  • Cut and lift of bridge span and two piers completed successfully within a 20hr shut down period

Key Challenges

  • Early preparation works and temporary works included propping and other retention measures to stabilise the bridge spans and piers
  • Complex crane lifts were undertaken during the night with each individual bridge span weighing up to 100 tonnes and measuring up to 30 metres in length, and piers weighing over 35 tonnes
  • Logistical planning and execution for transport of bridge spans
  • Safe management and removal of unexpected asbestos finds within the bridge head stocks
