The deployment, operation and maintenance of heavy plant and equipment is high risk and capital intensive. It also requires specialist skills and operating licences, late model fleets and meticulous attention to maintaining project critical assets.

That’s why one of the largest multi-national energy companies – Engie (then GDF Suez) – contracted Delta Group in 2013 to hire heavy plant and equipment for the high profile decommissioning of the Hazelwood Coal Mine and Power Station.

Our partnership with Engie is ongoing and has involved the supply and maintenance of hundreds of specialised plant and equipment, including attachments, as well as management of local contractors engaged to complete various works – including:

  • Controlled shutdown of Hazelwood Power Station, including 8 generating units and removal of generating fluids, oil and industrial gasses.
  • Industrial cleaning of boilers, including wash out of ash and coal.
  • Containment and removal of asbestos and hazardous materials.
  • Salvage and asset recovery.
  • Environmental management services – staged remediation and rehabilitation of the 3,554 hectare site, contaminated soil and 30,000 megalitre cooling ponds.
  • Key stakeholder engagement – Federal, State and Local Government, community groups, education institutions, media, suppliers/contractors, peak industry bodies.
