After months of meticulous preparation, the CMA Contracting team at Liddell Power Station in Australia’s Hunter Valley region successfully brought down the iconic 168 metre high, 7,500 tonne
reinforced concrete stacks with more than 500kg of high explosives.
The event was a major milestone in the two year demolition program and was the result of tens of thousands of workhours invested by our client AGL, local community and regulatory stakeholders,
and our delivery, inhouse and third party engineering, and specialist blasting teams.
From detailed methodology development, structural and blast engineering coordination, and preweakening and drilling works to explosive charge installation, exclusion zone implementation, and environmental monitoring controls – this was nothing but a team effort.
Our carefully sequenced felling methodology was tailored to site constraints, adjacent (live) assets, and
broader demolition staging requirements. More than 6,000 people watched the fells via a special live stream set up by AGL, with another 33,000 watching the post-event video on AGL and Delta Group socials.
